Position Title:                       Development Director

Reports To:                           President and CEO
The Development Director serves as a strategist for fund-raising activities of Junior Achievement of Northeastern New York and is the primary staff support in fund-raising matters for the President and CEO and the Board of Directors. Key element of the development program includes major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, special events, and community. Supporting elements include: donor stewardship and recognition, gift entry and acknowledgement, database management, and donor research.
  • Work with President & CEO and other development staff to set and achieve annual and multi-year goals through major gifts of individuals, corporations and foundations, direct mail appeals, and special events.
  • Manage and mentor development staff in fulfilling development goals and enhancing development efforts.
  • Foster superior relationship building capacity with key partners such as board members, government entities, investors, foundations, corporate entities, volunteers, other non-profit agencies, educational institutions and other constituents who support the work of JANENY.
  • Develop new revenue sources by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and engaging funders including individuals, corporate entities, foundations and other organizations.
  • Oversee the development and execution of an effective marketing / communication plan including press releases, social media, and special events.
  • Oversee the process to research, cultivate, prepare and submit effective grant proposals to maximize the opportunities for JANENY to receive grant funding.
  • Collaborate with the President and Committees of the Board of Directors to engage the Board members in effective fundraising activities.
  • Develop and implement ideas to continuously improve key funding processes to include but not be limited to growth of corporate engagement; growth of grants and foundational support; maximize the results of events; effective use of public and media relations; and enhanced marketing techniques.
  • Serve as a vital member of the leadership team by staying abreast of organization-wide issues and contributing to the development and achievement of the agency’s long-term vision, mission and short-term operating plans.
  • Work with program staff and other organization staff to insure outcomes are met and properly promoted to potential donors and volunteers of organization.
  • Embrace and promote the mission, vision, and values of Junior Achievement of Northeastern New York.
  • Attend area networking events as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned; including some early mornings, weeknights and weekends (special events, operational, committee leadership, finance, fundraising etc.)
  • Degree in marketing, business, fundraising or related field preferred and/or equivalent work experience.
  • A proven track record as a fundraiser and demonstrated ability to create and execute strategy to achieve desired results
  • Management skills and strong oral/written communication skills are a must
